November 2022 Playlist
This month’s playlist features new music from Puck, Dagne Gorham, Mall Daze, Bunny Habit, Clara Tracey and more. Here are some of our favorites:
Elder Jack - I Know Everything
Elder Jack’s “I Know Everything” is off the band’s new EP Elder Jack Short Work. The EP is a collection of tracks recorded over the summer. If you’ve ever wondered what an emo/indie/math rock song sounds like with an alto sax, check out the band’s catalog.
Babydoll - For You
Chicago songwriter/producer Babydoll is back with “For You.” The neo-soul/r&b song is delicately glued together by backing harmonies and strings. The track is off of Babydoll’s most recent and stellar EP tell me it’s The End.
Ultra Q - I Watched Them Go
Oakland band Ultra Q delves into experimental pop on their new track “I Watched Them Go.” The 4-piece takes cues from synth-pop and hyperpop. With pitched vocals over layers of synths and a drum and bass foundation, the band is committed to reaching new heights.
Chasms - Parallel
On “Parallel,” LA-based songwriter / producer Chasms continues to dig deeper into electronic grooves. The lyrics reflect the uncertainty that comes with being in a partnership and the act of reciprocity. Musically, Chasms asks us to get lost in a breakbeat that comes and goes. Chasms has a new album out early next year.
UMM - Rubberband
Belgian band UMM has released their new album Deep Sea Diver. The track “Rubberband” features layers of arpeggiated synths, swirling guitars and strings that bloom before they suddenly disappear.
The Slow Readers Club - Knowledge Freedom Power
The Manchester band The Slow Readers Club are back with their new anthemic single “Knowledge Freedom Power.” The track was written to offer some light against the dark days we’ve recently encountered. Their new album is out early 2023.
DijahSB - Khadijah
On “Khadijah,” Toronto-based rapper DijahSB ponders the existence of their other half. DijahSB is in no rush to jump into a new relationship, but rather exploring the possibilities of one as they easily move between verses.
Soft Blue Shimmer - End & Affection
Soft Blue Shimmer, the SoCal dream pop / shoegaze band, has released their new album Love Lives in the Body. The last track “End & Affection” highlights what the band does best: delicate vocals over ethereal instrumentation. The band is currently on a full US tour supporting the release.
HjNX - Night Swim
On “Night Swim,” indie rock duo HjNX find their way to the better days. This is the latest in a string of singles that the Toronto duo have released this year. The track is a collaboration with Justin Peroff and Brendan Canning of Broken Social Scene.
New music from MRS, Gardenia, Dream Bodies, CHIME OBLIVION and L.A. Witch.
