October 2022 Playlist
This month’s playlist features new music from Emily Breeze, Nomi Ruiz, Puppy Angst, THE BOBBY LEES, Pretty Sick and more. Here are some of our faves:
Raavi - no bodies
On “no bodies,” Raavi explores self-worth and trying to find meaning in work. The track was written while the songwriter was working on “It Grows on Trees,”the EP released in May. The Brooklyn-based artist is expected to release a full-length next year.
Upchuck - Facecard
Atlanta’s garage/punk rock band Upchuck have released their debut album Sense Yourself. The 10-track album takes on police brutality, social class in America, modern life and more.
Bloodtooth - Holding me back
On “Holding me back,” the UK duo Bloodtooth vocalizes the effect of letting others get to you. The track recalls the raw punk energy of classic albums such as Julie Ruin, Germ Free Adolescents and The Teaches of Peaches.
Wild Cabin - The Moment I Suffer, I Suffer Alone
Wild Cabin released a new double single earlier this month. On “The Moment I Suffer, I Suffer Alone,” the Glasgow duo transitions from shoegazers to indie alt-pop/rockers in less than a minute.
Black Nicholson - Spaghetti Western
Black Nicholson's “Spaghetti Western”is a mix of 60s-70s rock guitar and pop harmonies through a lo-fi lens. The Northern California-based songwriter records material on his iPhone.
Alternative metal band Eva released their debut album last month. The 10-track release pulls from influences ranging from post-grunge, shoegaze and nu metal. On ‘OPIA,’ the band–Austin “Auzzie” Schmitt (vocals, rhythm guitar), Moises “Moi” Richardson (guitar), Ethan Strobel (bass) and Jeff Gonzales–references Deftones, Chevelle, and Slipknot alongside video game music and nu gaze artists including Wisp and Slow Crush. To mark its release, Eva curated a list of songs that shaped their full-length record. Read our Q&A and listen to the playlist.
