December 2022 Playlist

This month’s playlist features new music from Emily Breeze, Whitelands, all under heaven, Easy Bruiser, Audio Dope and more. Here are some of our favorites:

Casper Sage - is this real life?

On “is this real life?” OKC songwriter & producer Casper Sage questions the possibility of falling for someone. The track follows the minimal R&B sound that Sage last explored on their self-titled 2022 album. Sage is an artist to watch.

KT Laine - Again

Montreal songwriter and multi-instrumentalist KT Laine has released their debut album Knock Lane. On the opening track “Again,” Laine imagines a world in which their relationship takes a different turn. On the album, Laine experiments with vintage sounds and 60s / 70s harmonies.

Glom - Balance

The self-proclaimed “NYC indie lofi slowcore shoegaze rock boyz” Glom are at it again! Their latest single “Balance” highlights the band’s ability to write catchy hooks and beautiful melodies. The band is set to release their two EPs as a split LP early next year.

Happy Science - Barbiturates

The London band Happy Science is out with the second single off of their upcoming EP Car Crash Cabaret. The track “Barbiturates” opens with a simple two-note guitar riff before the full band kicks into high gear. The song is driven by singer Calum Connaughton’s raw vocals, pushing the track from alt-rock toward post-punk territory.

Taleen Kali - Fine Line

After wrapping up her fall tour, Taleen Kali is gearing up to release the full-length Flower of Life. On the latest single “Fine Line,” Kali explores the scars love leaves behind. The Los Angeles songwriter combines psych rock, riot grrrl and punk to create a dark sound.

notfortheo - just a little bit

Toronto’s notfortheo recently put out their debut EP half life. On the track, “just a little bit,” the indie alt-pop trio easily convinces us to stay a little longer. The song, first released earlier this summer, was produced by Ontario’s CAMP.30.

Goldmyth - video

Goldmyth gets nostalgic about a town they left behind on their new single “video.” The track layers minimal electronic instrumentation, before the catchy sing-a-long chorus breaks through. This is a follow up to Goldmyth’s last single “Triptych,” which we featured as one of our favorite tracks in July.

takenbymarshall - leicester

On “leicester,” the UK songwriter takenbymarshall revisits the simpler days. The track, described by the artist as “a queer melancholy love song,” takes us back to 90s alt-rock. Their previous releases range from bedroom pop to electronic, garage and lo-fi hip hop.

hemlocke springs - girlfriend

This one has us at a loss for words! It’s pure indie pop perfection. As the melody in the bridge climbs up, it takes us to a place we’ve never been! The track is a blend between the quirkiness of early Cyndi Lauper tunes and Italo disco (see “Exalt-Exalt” by Azoto). hemlocke springs only has a couple of tracks out, but definitely an artist to keep an eye on!

Trophy Wife - Baby’s Breath

Boston-based indie rock project Trophy Wife has released their new EP Voyeur. On “Baby’s Breath,” songwriter and vocalist McKenzie Iazzetta watches as it falls to pieces. Iazzetta sings with the type of raw emotion, the kind found in 90s grunge, that you can’t help but scream along with. Also check out “Leech” on the EP.
