Sea Lemon - Stay

Sea Lemon, the project of Seattle songwriter Natalie Lew, has announced the debut album Diving For A Prize. "’Stay’ was the first track I actively wrote for my record, and is a little vignette of a man I saw in a local thrift store,” Lew says. “This older guy, probably in his 70s or 80s, was acting as a security guard at this thrift store near my house, but he was basically asleep on the couch the entire time I was there. I couldn’t stop thinking about him after I left, and wrote ‘Stay’ as a reaction to seeing this guy who I felt deserved to take a break. The song became a short story about him, and about how important I feel it can be to have someone in your life willing to tell you to take a step back and just relax." Diving For A Prize is out 6/13 via Luminelle Records.

bug crush - Mikey Told Me

Sometimes going for a stroll is inspiring enough. For Brooklyn-based artist bug crush it took a walk around the neighborhood. “I wrote ‘Mikey Told Me’ right when I first moved to Brooklyn. I was living with two of my close friends in a shitty apartment,” Carolyn Fahrner of bug crush says. “I wasn’t sleeping well because my bedroom floors were 3 inches uneven. In my groggy waking hours, I wandered around Brooklyn and frequently passed by a store called ‘Mikey’s Hook Up’. I thought it was a funny name and it stuck in my head. I wanted to write a song that wasn’t really about me, or anyone I knew, but I think it inevitably ended up being a reflection of my experiences in the world.” Bug crush’s new EP Somehow I Go In Circles All The Time will be out 5/16.

resting - Coast

On their latest single “Coast,” indie rock/dreampop band resting channel Beach Fossils, Wild Nothing, Diiv. The band was formed by Daniel Warner and Tim Robinson back in 2023, at a time when their current project was ending. “We wanted to have a deep, textured sound with the main roots being in the dreampop and shoegaze world,” the band explains. We’re excited to see what the band does next!

SHAGGO - I Wanted Fun

Brooklyn femme punk band SHAGGO are back with their new single “I Wanted Fun.” On the song, the band offers: “We wanted ‘I Wanted Fun’ to sound and feel as angry as we felt when we wrote it. That’s why it didn’t feel quite done after the choruses… the end of the song / last section sort of devolves into noise/shouting - it feels like a completely different song (we play this section differently every time we play it live) so that was interesting to record, getting on the same page to make sure we were all in sync but also still capture the energy of how it feels live.” The track is the second single off the band’s upcoming debut album on Atlanta Zone Records.

It Burns - Shift to Overdrive

Prague-based It Burns is inspired by bands like She Past Away, Lebanon Hanover, and Boy Harsher. Their debut single “Shift to Overdrive” sees their dark lyrical imagery meeting pulsating coldwave/synth pop beats head on. The duo splits songwriting duties, with band member Z providing the sonic landscapes and Cheryl writing the lyrics and performing the vocals.
