The Faves Playlist - Week of 10/30

Listen to music from bands like Urge, Open Head, DITZ and more.

Yard. - Morning Shows

Brooklyn post-punk band explores the transfer of devastation on their new song “Morning Shows.” Vocalist Brandt Kempin says “This song deals with the potentially contagious elements of tragedy. The narrator experiences loss and begins to see terror seeping through even the mundane elements of everyday life, even the space between the words of morning show hosts. Plus Danny eats a lot of canned chicken.” Yard.’s new EP The Weight of Everything in Just One Sitting is out this week.

VANARIN - Lost

VANARIN is an Anglo-Italian psych-pop band who’s shared the stage with artists such as Thurston Moore, Public Image Ltd, and Battles. Their new song “Lost” captures the feeling of drifting in the all-encompassing indifference of the virtual world over space-pop. The song is the fifth single off the band’s upcoming full-length album to be released by the Italian indie Dischi Sotterranei.

French Nancy - Lovers

Post-punk band French Nancy’s style is to create "high energy songs for introspective moments.” Their new song “Lovers” is a poignant observation on how we can get trapped in toxic relationships. The Hackney duo is influenced by bands like Motorama, Black Marble, The Cure, and Topographies. As the band warns on Instagram, the song “May or may not induce an emotional response.”

jan. - my dear

Sydney’s jan. weighs the possibilities of personal relationships on “my dear,” asking us to choose between being alone or partnering up. The band offers, “Relationships are filled with love, hate, fear, and everything in between, and ‘my dear’ embodies the self-awareness and numbness of understanding this question” The 5-piece band’s sound merges alternative, emo and post-hardcore. Jan. will be sharing the bill with indie heavyweights The Wombats at Rolling Sets festival in December.

Big Black Delta - Uncertainty Is Delight

“What if? What if Earth is actually a school, of sorts, for the enrichment of one’s own Soul?” Big Black Delta, the solo project of Johnathan Bates, ponders. “A Soul knowing it is eternal, comes to Earth to learn limitations.” So begins Bates’ statement on Big Black Delta’s new song “Uncertainty Is Delight.” The track is off the newly announced album ADONAI which is out early next year.
