Lou Tides - Map Maker
Lou Tides, the solo project of film composer Teeny Lieberson, tackles self-awareness and sobriety on her new single “Map Maker.” Lieberson explains, “To have a relationship with yourself that is truthful, it requires actually caring about yourself. I spent so many years drinking away that care, utilizing the only coping mechanisms I thought were available to me. Mistaking punishment for expansion. 'Map Maker' is about looking at my choices - some inherited, some familial, and trying to rip open my understanding of love." Lou Tides’ upcoming album Autostatic! is out 5/23 on Switch Hit Records.
Theo Bleak - Said Like A Poet
“‘Said Like A Poet’ is a scathing look at how much I idealize intellect, even though I'm entirely emotionally driven,” Theo Bleak says of her latest single. “I think ideas can be beautifully written between people, but ultimately, there are concepts that lack properness—regardless of how pretentiously you write them out. I wrote this song about very human things, things I wish I knew how to ask for.” The Scottish indie artist is sharing her new EP Bad Luck Is Two Yellow Flowers on May 15 through Polymoon.
Nomi Ruiz & Eli Escobar - Full Fantasy
The nostalgia for old New York is fully present on “Full Fantasy,” the first single off of Nomi Ruiz & Eli Escobar’s upcoming album. “‘Full Fantasy’ is a very escapist track referencing the old freestyle song ‘Fantasy Girl’ which was a quintessential New York City summer love song,” says Nomi Ruiz. “Letting guards down, letting lust seep in, losing yourself to desire.” The duo’s collaborative album Love Louder is out 6/27 via Brooklyn label Razor-N-Tape.
Blackwater Holylight - Wandering Lost
LA four-piece Blackwater Holylight blends styles seamlessly on their new single “Wandering Lost.” As band member Sunny Faris shares, the metal/psych/shoegaze song was created with the aim of telling a cohesive story with many sides. "'Wandering Lost' came to us in pieces throughout a handful of weeks in Los Angeles,” she says. “The four of us intentionally wanted this song to have multiple parts to tell a story that takes you on a journey throughout. This song is very special to us because it represents us as musicians individually and is a perfect reflection of what we’ve created as a group.” The band’s latest EP If You Only Knew is out now via Suicide Squeeze.
Blindness & Light - Shards
Wales alternative project Blindness & Light recently released their second album I Dreamt I Had Insomnia. On “Shards,” they explore the mayhem caused by those who are discontent with their own lives. “People should be happy in their own skin before imposing their self-hate on others,” says songwriter/vocalist Colin M. Potter. The band’s 80s/90s British post-punk influences are rich, providing a gloomy and somber backdrop to the song’s theme. The album is available for purchase on CD and vinyl through Bandcamp and merch is available here.
