August 2022 Playlist
This month’s playlist features new music from Palm, Urban Heat, Mouse, Gloomchurch, Drainer and more. Here are some highlights:
Eyas - Object Permanence
On “Object Permanence,” Eyas blends neo-psychedelic and 70s soul expertly. Eyas is a solo project for Baltimore producer and multi-instrumentalist Jenna Balderson. This is a departure from Balderson’s earlier indie electronic singles.
Rid of Me - PDA
On their fantastic cover of Interpol’s “PDA,” Rid Of Me’s vocalist Itarya Rosenberg brings grit to the track. The Philadelphia noise punk band is currently working on their second album.
Sectarian Bloom - Static
Oakland’s Sectarian Bloom has released the anthemic post-punk track “Static.” The song is off the band’s new EP New Spring. The band is currently wrapping up their east coast tour.
Svntax Error - Broken Nightmares
“Broken Nightmares'' from Svntax Error is the kind of track you can get lost in. The 6+ minute song is a slow burning psychedelic / alt rock tune that goes up in flames.
Soft Top Intrepid - Mirage
On the indie rock track “Mirage,” Soft Top Intrepid looks back at their past and examines whether memories are real or just an illusion. This is the duo’s third single.
Blue Vedder - Please (Proceed)
Melbourne shoegazers Blue Vedder have released the first track off their
upcoming EP. The song “Please (Proceed)” is a fuzz-heavy tune that looks back and nods at 90s alt-rockers.
Cruise Awayy - Daffodil
On “Daffodil,” New York dream pop duo Cruise Awayy search for the words to best express how they feel about their other half. The duo have been playing music together since 2014.
The Redroom - Time
UK band The Redroom has released “Time.” The indie/soul track captures the feeling of time passing quickly and not being able to do anything about it.
Medhanit - Friends
“Friends” from indie pop artist Medhanit is about breaking things off with someone and not being able to stay friends. This is the third single from the Melbourne-based artist.
Alternative metal band Eva released their debut album last month. The 10-track release pulls from influences ranging from post-grunge, shoegaze and nu metal. On ‘OPIA,’ the band–Austin “Auzzie” Schmitt (vocals, rhythm guitar), Moises “Moi” Richardson (guitar), Ethan Strobel (bass) and Jeff Gonzales–references Deftones, Chevelle, and Slipknot alongside video game music and nu gaze artists including Wisp and Slow Crush. To mark its release, Eva curated a list of songs that shaped their full-length record. Read our Q&A and listen to the playlist.
