September 2022 Playlist

This month’s playlist features new music from Maya Songbird, Blah Spa, Scrounge, Phantom Youth, Morosis and more. Here are some highlights:

Mykki Blanco - Pink Diamond Bezel

Mykki Blanco is an artist in their own lane. On the new single “Pink Diamond Bezel,” Mykki flows over spaced out minimalist sounds. Before you know it, those sounds are replaced by a distorted guitar, chants, a choir and heavy drums. Mykki has a new album out next month.

Virgins - signalling

Belfast shoegaze band Virgins have released their excellent 90s influenced, fuzz-heavy single “signalling.” The band’s debut EP Transmit A Little Heaven is out on October 14th.

Reckless - Sad Girls Rock

On “Sad Girls Rock,” London-based artist/producer Reckless is a storyteller. The vivid lyrics depict dark heavy days. At its core, through the repetition of a three word chorus, it reminds us that through all the pain and self-doubt we are worthy of love.

Morning Silk - Not The Only Way

New York alt/indie rock band Morning Silk
continue to put out trippy pop songs. The luscious vocals on this track, over psychedelic guitars and dancing bass lines really bring this one together. Look out for their EP dropping later this month.

Kynsy - Simple Life

On “Simple Life” Dublin artist Kynsy explores the lows of a love affair. It’s a perfect indie rock track with a sing-along hook. The track is off Kynsy’s new EP Something To Do With Love.

echo - out of line

Echo has released their debut album adjust. The shoegaze track “out of line,” highlights the fact that the Texas-based multi-instrumentalist can do it all.

blushless - The Fairground

Glasgow-based indie project blushless has released the excellent track “The Fairground.” The guitar work and vocals recall the style of Elliott Smith. The last chorus is a harmonious round, multiple voices repeating themselves over and over, one just behind the other.

Cheerless - Heat

On their debut single “Heat,” East London shoegazers Cheerless bring the distortion, reverb and instrumental guitar breaks. The 6+ minute track was mastered by Simon Scott of Slowdive.

Outlander - New Motive Power

Slowcore band Outlander are back with their new single “New Motive Power.” The track builds on the UK band’s catalog of doom and slow rock while exploring the domain between complete silence and distorted noise.

PUGHA - Home

On “Home,” PUGHA gets nostalgic about the place they left behind on this 80s influenced synth-heavy track. This is the second single for the London-based solo artist Justas Pugaciauskas.
