The Faves Playlist - Week of 8/21

Listen to music from bands like Welcome Strawberry, blue heron holy ghost, Goodwill, The Albinos, and Taker.

Wishy - Sick Sweet

Indie rock/shoegaze band Wishy released their debut album Triple Seven last week. On the opening track “Sick Sweet” look forward with energetic optimism. “This song is about wanting something or someone despite doubts or misgivings, and laying it all on the line to see it through,” band member Kevin Krauter explains. “I was inspired by an Oasis interview asking Liam Gallagher what his lyrics are generally about and he says something to the effect of “Just living life” and “Just going for it.” That’s the energy I put into this song.” The Indianapolis band will be kick off a UK/EU/US tour starting off at Hopscotch Music Festival on 9/5.

daarling - Arrangements to Change

One of our favorite Chicago bands daarling, who we got to interview earlier this year, dropped their new EP Arrangements to Change. The title track picks up where the band left off on last year’s The Deep Within. The trio continues to impress us with their guitar textures and Erin Lyle’s distinctive approach to vocal melodies. Arrangements to Change will be released on cassette. Follow daarling on Instagram for more info.

Squint - Pack Rat

After signing to Sunday Drive Records, St. Louis hardcore-punk band Squint has announced their debut album Big Hand. Their latest single “Pack Rat” explores holding on to things that no longer serve us, with vocalist Brennen Wilkinson singing “Pack rat, all of it’s mine until I’m trapped.” Big Hand is out on 10/25 and is available for pre-order on Bandcamp.

Spring Silver - It’s Imperative

On “It’s Imperative,” Maryland power pop project Spring Silver get straight to work. “The lyrics are a bit satirical,” explains K Nkanza. “The song is basically from the perspective of a businessman who is trying to express how lonely his life is but can only do so through corporate lingo.” Spring Silver’s new album Don’t You Think It’s Strange? is out tomorrow.

Computer Kill - Must Have Been A Dream

Computer Kill looks back to he past in their new single “Must Have Been A Dream.” Vocalist Noah Schippers says, “The song is basically about longing for someone or something who used to be around all the time.” The song is a follow-up to their self-titled EP released this past spring. We will wait patiently for more from the Baltimore electronic/darkwave project.

Deathsport - Neodistance

Munich-based indie rock band Deathsport just released their new EP Problem. On “Neodistance,” the duo captures the emotional aspects of two people somewhere between intimacy and detachment. “‘Neodistance’ is a song about being so close yet so far apart,” says the band in an Instagram post. Problem is out now via Duchess Box Records.
