The Faves Playlist - Week of 5/7

New music from all under heaven, Mr Finn, Off Comms, Spirit Ghost and more.

Past Model - Trial

Austin coldwave/darkwave project Past Model has released their debut single “Trial.” Written as a “hypothetical situation,” the band says, the song “is about the feelings that one gets when you feel you are at the crossroads of a relationship that you deeply care about and how personal complex traumas can put yourself at ends with this person–and it’s up to how you choose to continue living that will ultimately decide your future being together.” The duo, twin brothers Kevin and Kyle Garcia, will release their EP In Light in late summer.

Hey Gorgeous - Bombs On You

Montreal’s Hey Gorgeous, the musical project spearheaded by Peet Massé, is releasing a full-length album inspired by travel. The songs are about overcoming challenges “that could only be achieved by leaving home.” In “Bombs On You,” Massé takes on “a dialogue between two protagonists, whose relationship needs aren’t occurring on equal grounds.” The album International Breakthroughs will be out later this year.

Don’t Get Lemon - Pop Star Salvation

Don’t Get Lemon, the alternative/new wave has returned with their latest album Have Some Shame. On the album’s final track, “Pop Star Salvation” the band reaches out to the healing powers of pop music, vocalist Austin Curtis singing “Waiting your turn in the rotation/Queuing up for pop star salvation.” The band has announced dates with synthpop/new wave band Holy Wire.

Tiger La Flor - rope bunny

After catching an 80s-inspired duo at SXSW with a former Mister Luxembourg, songwriter/musician Tiger La Flor wrote a song that taps into a style that recalls the days of “vintage Playboy covers and Studio 54.” According to the Hollywood-based artist, “We never saw each other again and he ended up moving back to Europe,” she says. Regardless, the song’s French spoken word intro and memorable chorus will stay with us for some time.

Night Rose - November Love Song

LA-based Night Rose has released the first single “November Love Song” off an upcoming self-titled EP. Night Rose’s vocals swim in layers of synths as she counts down the dark winter months. Night Rose will be out this summer.
