The Faves Playlist - Week of 1/19

New music from Theo Bandenhoff, VR SEX, snailosaur and more. Check out our faves below:

THAMES - Mr. Postman

On their new single “Mr. Postman,” Amsterdam-based THAMES calls our our biases and prejudgements.“Mr Postman is a song about prejudice,” the band explains. “About how we’re all capable to judge people on account of their appearance. All the while these notions might be terribly misjudged. In this instance there is Postman Mike. He looks a bit dodgy and steals clothes and underwear from all over the neighborhood. The people’s first reaction is anger, but by following him, meaning to confront him with his actions Mike stops to dump the stolen clothes at Salvation Army. This song is a reminder and invitation to reflect before judging somebody.” The post-punk band just wrapped up a string of dates around Amsterdam.

Still Ruins - Silhouette

On “Silhouette,” Oakland’s Still Ruins reconnects with a shadow. The band explains that the track is “about being haunted by a loved one who has since passed on. Not wanting to believe that they are still there but then ultimately giving in and falling in love again but with their ‘ghost’ or ‘spirit.’” The song “Silhouette” is taken from the band’s latest EP S/T. The 5-track release is available on Laffy Taffy Yellow via Bandcamp.

Punchlove - Screwdriver

On “Screwdriver,” New York shoegaze band Punchlove takes on the mind’s ability to shape and shift. Bandmember Jillian Olesen details the message behind the track, "the uncanny ability of the brain to change memories from nuanced to nostalgic and from complicated to unrealistically simple." The track is off the band’s upcoming album Channels out on 3/1 via Kanine Records and is available for pre-order here.

Los Sindes - Muerte, Ayer

Sacramento’s Los Sindes describe what it’s like to be afflicted by love in their new single “Muerte, Ayer.” As the band explains, the track is about “being so hypnotized by someone you long for and desire–almost like a fine line between yearning and obsession. It’s like lovesickness because this lover is always coming and going in your life.” The new wave/post-punk single is the band’s first after signing to San Francisco indie label Psyched! Records.

Topographies - Chain of Days

San Francisco post-punk band Topographies has released a new single off of their upcoming album Interior Spring. On “Chain of Days,” the band, made up of Justin Oronos, Jeremie Ruest, and Gray Tolhurst, continues to dig into coldwave/synthpop sounds. Interior Spring arrives on 2/2 via Dark Entries. The album is available for pre-order now.
