The Faves Playlist - February 2023

This month we’ve got new music from Yves Tumor, crushed, Keep, Spitting Image, Rosewilder and more. Here are some of our favorites:

Frӓulein - Pet

London-based duo Frӓulein is back with their new single “Pet.” The track, produced by Ali Chant, shows off Frӓulein’s range when it comes to playing with dynamics. This is the band’s first release on Submarine Cat Records. To celebrate, the band has announced a UK tour in April.

Donzii - Disco Rosie

“Disco Rosie” by Miami’s Donzii is a HI-NRG, no wave anthem. The track is off their upcoming For The People vinyl, a collection of the group’s two EPs plus two new tracks. The band has a couple of dates scheduled next month, including on 3/11 at Brooklyn’s Union Pool.

Ergo, Bria - Teeth

The Nashville-based Ergo, Bria brings the fury on “Teeth.” The track is a blend of alt-rock and metal, adding to the list of genres that she has conquered. The classically trained multi-instrumentalist shows us that, in addition to playing Chopin compositions on the piano, she can also scream. Ergo, Bria is set to release a full-length album soon.

Public Interest - Undone

“Undone,” the new single from Oakland project Public Interest, is post-punk perfection. On the track, vocalist Chris Natividad takes on the impermanence of life. The single is off the upcoming EP Spiritual Pollution, set to be released in April.

Eaves Wilder - Are You Diagnosed?

The London artist Eaves Wilder is getting ready to release her first EP Hookey. The latest single “Are You Diagnosed?” is a critique of the mental health services in the UK. The track brings together elements from punk, shoegaze and pop to highlight her concerns with the system.

Taleen Kali - Crusher

The new Taleen Kali song “Crusher” has us drowning in distortion and heavenly vocals. The track is the last single off of the band’s upcoming album Flower of LIfe. Taleen Kali will head out on a US tour in March.

Don Cuoto & Karen y Los Remedios - Cumbia Espectro

If you’ve ever dropped someone, it’s because you don’t want to hear from them again. On the spooky “Cumbia Espectro,” Don Cuoto and Karen y Los Remedios explore what happens when that person keeps reappearing out of thin air like a ghost.

The Meek Dagger - Next Goodbye

Louis Gee, from the alt-rock noise pop band This Love Is Deadly, has released a new project under the name The Meek Dagger. The song “Next Goodbye,” the first track off the EP I, moves from a heavy slowcore tempo with a pulsing bass to a shoegaze rager.

Shalom - Soccer Mommy

The South African born Brooklyn-based artist Shalom is getting ready to release her debut album sublimation. On “Soccer Mommy,” Shalom examines her past decisions and sees them as learning lessons. Shalom also discusses getting through hard times by taking care of plants and listening to Soccer Mommy. Relatable! The album is out on 3/10 on Saddle Creek.

Polevaulter - Content

On “Content,” Leeds duo Polevaulter turn their poetry into a post-punk / industrial fusion. The song is a follow up to last year’s “bills bills bills” single. The experimental noise rock band is currently wrapping up a short string of dates in the UK.

DEBBY FRIDAY - I GOT IT

DEBBY FRIDAY is back with another astonishing single off her upcoming album GOOD LUCK. “I GOT IT” is a collaboration with Canadian artist Uñas (Pelada). The techno / industrial / punk track gives us full-force apocalyptic rave vibes. The album is out next month.

DAIISTAR - Tracemaker

On their debut single, DAIISTAR mixes noise rock, shoegaze with hints of psychedelia. The track “Tracemaker” was produced by Alex Maas of The Black Angels. The Austin 4-piece is heading out on a West Coast tour before hitting SXSW in March.

Ladytron - Faces

Electronic / synthpop band Ladytron have released their new album Time’s Arrow. On “Faces,” the third single, the Liverpool band explores our ability to shape our own identities. The duo has announced a string of shows in the UK and US.

Cable Ties - Perfect Client

Australian punk band Cable Ties are back at it with a new single on Merge Records. On “Perfect Client” singer Jenny McKechnie voices the lack of social support for those with mental health issues. The track is a follow up to their 2020 album Far Enough.

Chasms - Glimpse of Heaven

Chasms has released the new single “Glimpse of Heaven” off the upcoming album with the same name. The minimal electronic production is mesmerizing and envelops us in its own essence. Chasms is set to play a short run of dates across the US.
