New Releases - April 2025
There is no Bandcamp Friday this month.
However, we went through recent releases and wrote about some of our favorite. You can still support indie music by picking up records by the bands and artists below.
L.A. Witch - DOGGOD
To serve or to dominate in love is the theme of L.A. WItch’s new album DOGGOD. As vocalist Sade Sanchez explains, “There’s a willingness to die for love in the process of serving it or suffering for it or in search of it… just in the way a loyal, devoted servant dog would.” This is already one of our favorite garage/psych rock albums of the year.
Agender - Berserk
How can we protest without falling into the same patterns of consumption? On their new album Berserk LA punk band Agender takes on the difficulties presented by our economic system. “Everyone’s trying to improve, to 'do the work,' but the conundrum is: there’s no ethical consumption under capitalism,” says Romy Hoffman (vocals/guitar). “This album is a snapshot of that dilemma, wrapped in something catchy enough to make you want to dance–or scream–a solution.” The dance punk album was co-produced by Hoffman and David Scott Stone of LCD Soundsystem.
Niis - niis world
LA’s Niis aligns with the punk ethos–community–on their new album Niis World. As the band’s guitarist says, “The powers that be want us to pit against each other, they don't want us to connect, well, it's actually more punk to not be pitted against each other, it’s more about community, connecting, and being good to each other.” Niis kicks off their US tour next week.
Kinlaw - gut ccheck
NYC artist Kinlaw spent two years working in an anechoic chamber. On her new album gut ccheck, she carefully balances silence and noise, transporting listeners between opposite worlds. “I wanted to know what role the brain and the body played in how we hear, and I wanted to concentrate more on silence than how to fill it,” she says. The result is a dichotomy of sound–aggressive yet delicate, industrial but pop, mechanical and acoustic, gut ccheck proves opposites can peacefully coexist.
OHYUNG - You Are Always On My Mind
OHYUNG, the musical project of composer Lia Ouyang Rusli, has released her new album You Are Always On My Mind. Rusli describes the project as “my trans self and my former self in conversation, from both perspectives.” It's an experimental and beautiful record. From the stabbing synths in “no good” to the sampled strings and ascending piano notes of the title track pouring out from the subconscious, we experience OHYUNG as she moves between the highs of the rave and the lows of the morning after.
warmachine - soulmurder
Post-hardcore/shoegaze band warmachine just put out their second EP soulmurder. Taking three 12-hour days to record, the 6-track project is a departure from the first EP browsers castle. Warmachine purposely honed in on their sound, working collaboratively to forge a path forward while polishing their artistic voice.
