Mahogany @ The New Colossus Festival 2025
Armed with 12-string guitars, Mahogany blends different types of genres, including classical, shoegaze and post-punk, culminating into a style they call “hypercube.” Mahogany has achieved praise for their music, releasing various compilations and EPs over the years. The duo, Andrew Prinz and Jaclyn Slimm, is currently in the studio working on a new album.
Mahogany made an appearance at The New Colossus Festival, performing a set during the Shoegaze Party at Arlene’s Grocery. Read our exchange with Mahogany after their 30-minute performance.

Tell us about a highlight of the event..Felt like the LES of the mid-00's — wall-to-wall, engaged in the show. A good sweat!
What’s your songwriting process?
Lately seems to start with making beats on MPCs and synths, then composing vocal ideas. We get into diagramming on paper — looking at the math. Fairly "DAW-less.” We sync our systems together to consolidate structure, stripe elements to analog tape. Guitar, cello, other instruments tend to evolve out of those concepts.
Favorite piece of gear: Sennheiser HD 490 PRO headphones + Eventide H90
How do you approach translating your music for your live shows? We’ll usually run a large PA system for our drum machines + samples. There’s a lot of programming for the guitar rigs. We also create our own projections to complete the effect.
Who are some of your favorite live acts right now? French band Healees opened for us at La Mécanique Ondulatoire in Paris last month and we loved their energy and guitar interplay. Most recently, we saw Kraftwerk at their first stop on their US tour. It was very cool to see and hear the hybrid of programmed and live performance along with the synchronized visuals.
